So I haven't posted in a while. Why? I hear you asking. What on earth could you possibly have to do that's more important than recording the precious lives of your kids?
Not so much that I'm super busy, just regular normal busy. More so that I might go on a tirade that might lead an unsuspecting reader to think I dislike my family these days.
Which I don't.
But they have been driving me crazy.
I have three very selfish children who are ungrateful little beasts (sorry, but you guys really are). And only one is truly allowed to be that way; the 2 year old, and that's the nature of every toddler (so I guess I'm talking about you and Andy, Rachel).
I'm spurred to this emotional outburst by things like expensive technology tossed around like it's worth pennies, toys upon toys upon toys that reside in my house and yet someone expects that since he is alive, he deserves more. And the absolute indignation that I will not fetch chocolate milk when fingers snap. And the constant mess will be the death of me. Whether it's the front bathroom that someone thinks is her, ahem, his/her personal changing room or the cups of Formally Known As Chocolate Milk that get stashed in all nooks and crannies with the signature straw indicating possession.
And for the love of all creation, if you drop a spoonful of whatever on the floor and the dog doesn't want it, CLEAN IT UP.
Keep in mind that this tirade comes from a person NOT known for her, um, housekeeping skills. So naturally, who do I have to blame? Oh, that would be me.
And who do I have to blame for the selfishness and ungratefullness? Oh, again, that would be me. Because who has never really made them work for their goods?
Taking a bow.
So, in other news, so it won't feel like I'm relentlessly picking on two of them and favoring one, that baby might well be the one to drive me over the edge. Remember a while back, when Paul and Spencer took off from the park to go home by themselves? They've been pretty good since then; the ratio of them leaving a house undetected versus with a parent has been in our favor overall.
Then two nights ago, they blew it. My neighbor and I are talking and actually WATCHING the kids as they carouse in the streets and they all wander over to the water drainage ditch/alley. We watched the big kids leave in pairs and go back to a yard and after about 45 seconds when we didn't see two blond toddler heads peeking over the bricks, we walked over to call them out.
They weren't there. And the immediate panic factor had to do with the fact that the ditch/alley opens up to the giant water drainage hole that leads under the alley and well, under our neighborhood. Forget the fact that it might be pitch black in their; toddlers don't give a dern about anything except "but I want to."
So we dash through the whole 20 yards or so and before I could really peer into the rocky mess leading to the tunnel, I see the little terrorists casually strolling to the park. They were halfway to the park and they were in no hurry, just moseying along.
We yelled at them and the neighbor toddler dutifully came back to his dad. MY son, however, yelled back at me "No!" And stood his ground.
Until I got there. Then there was no ground until he hit the timeout spot at home in the hallway.
Yeah. I figured I ough to wait until I get some good photos to share that would entice me to tell witty, cute tales of the household!
yeah, I haven't been feeling to witty lately either.
ReplyDeleteOh, darling daughter of mine. You echo the words and sentiments of mothers from ages past. I wonder what Mary REALLY felt when they had to go all the way back to Jerusalem to find HER baby. I just have to wonder......... You're doing great - it'll be over as soon as you bury the bodies in a remote, rural location.
ReplyDeleteI was overwhelmed by the similarities in your household to mine (minus the teenager) and then I read the post by judyfokc. I am so completely humbled. Thank you for that reminder in a day of no cell phones or video feeds.
