You gotta love teen dramatics. And since I don't get them everyday (overall, Rachel is much more emotionally stable than some of her friends), I can find humor in them when they arise. Her first day at Mount St. Mary's went well, I'm sure. But I'm assuming that it also was scary, intimidating, frustrating, lonely at times and confusing. It's high school, after all. I say that I'm "assuming" because Rachel-Bad-Mood climbed into the car after school. And I didn't get much out of her. Wait, I did get a couple of text messages from her bedroom to my phone saying things like "I'm mad at myself" (for choosing the Mount) and "I'll give you anything you want" (to let her go to Yukon). And a lot of skulking around with red-rimmed eyes and big sighs. But this morning takes the cake.
She grumped into the kitchen mumbling (in the tone designed for you to hear but you're supposed to think she's talking to herself) about it all and I quote:
"My hair would look awesome with my purple bow but no...there is no expression of color at that place. Everyone has to look dead."
At that, I couldn't resist pulling the camera out. I mean, really. How often to you get to photograph your kid looking dead?
