Preface: It needs to be said that for the majority of Andy's life, he has slept in our room. At times, this has meant a twin sized bed in our room. We are obviously more concerned with our sleep than we are with teaching our elder son a bit of self-reliance. However, for the past 6 weeks now, Andy and his bed have slept in the boys' room with Paul. By his own choice.
Andy informed me yesterday that when we got bunk beds for him and Paul, that we needed to keep the crib and the little mattress in the attic. I told him I wasn't sure if I wanted to, that I might give it away to someone else who needed a crib for their baby.
"No, you have to keep it. I want it for when Melissa and I get married." Melissa is a cute little blondie in his class. She and Andy really hit it off in Pre-K; she's been his "girlfriend" all year.
"Oh, you and Melissa are going to get married? And you need the crib? Why?" I playfully asked.
"Because we'll have babies and they will sleep in my room in the crib."
"Is Melissa going to have her own room?" I asked.
"No, we'll share a bed, like you and dad. We'll have your bed."
"What?!? You're taking our bed? Where are dad and I going?" I figured this was a good question to ask. He took a moment to think that one over.
"Well, actually, we will make a little bed on your floor and stay there until...you know...until...you die."
Lovely. I know most of you are thinking "gosh, the kid's planning your death" but no, that's not what's got me concerned. What concerns me is that apparently Andy plans to sleep in our room for the rest of his childhood and then plans to keep this up as a newlywed.
Until we...you know...until...we die.
Kristin I so needed a good laugh today. Thanks...Amy Johnson
