R - Results of Being Techno-Free

Catches the eye, doesn't it? He he.

It caught mine when I was perusing the pics on my camera. Apparently, this is one of Rachel's creations, using the chalk-on-sidewalk medium. If I can convince all the kids in the neighborhood to leave her alone one afternoon, I'll have her cover the entire driveway.

Rachel is currently technology-free. Not by choice. Nope, the techno-generation does not voluntarily give up all electronic connections to the outside world. Nope, the techno-generation gets technology-freed when they get an "F" on their report card for math. And with no other excuse than "I just didn't want to do the homework."

So poor Rachel does the wackiest things these days. Like volunteering to watch "Wonder Pets" with her brother, just in case something scary pops up and he needs someone there. Or offering to hang out with the kids in the neighborhood. She really hit an all-time low when she was hanging over my shoulder as I was working on my online classroom and goaded me into letting her jazz it up with new fonts that she alone can produce, since her mother cannot do HTML. That's how bad the techno-cravings have gotten.

"Mom, I can so make that look way cool. You just don't even know." And I gave in and allowed her a nibble at technology, hoping that it would reinforce what she's missing when she "just doesn't want to do the homework."

  1. If she is still techno-free Matt would love a cool guitar picture or safari. The safari would match the room but an awesome guitar would probably last longer in his room through out the years. There you go Rachel something to do!

  2. My 16 year old son is without his phone for the same exact reason. It is nice to see the benefits, ie, creativity...
