Because no matter the age of the kid, someone will leave a door open and expose all of your dirty little crap for hoodlums to steal.
Because there is QUITE the black market for Cub Scout supplies and history papers. At least in this neighborhood.
Lucky for the child in question (9 years old), my car started despite the dome light (which must turn off after x-amount of hours) and 32 degrees outside this morning.
