1. Tomorrow is Rachel's birthday. Sigh. Fifteen. I wish I had had time today to go get something wonderful to wake her up with (like 15 balloons that I would have secretly stashed somewhere). But alas, I have nothing because...
2. Paul has pneumonia in his right lung. Poor kid with the fever and the coughing. And then that evil x-ray tech demanding he sit still with this board between him and his mommy. And then his mommy acting all delighted that she was correct on her maternal instincts (even though she really wasn't happy he's sick, just glad she followed her gut and went to the doctor). And then the medicine. I've mentioned that Paul can throw up on demand, right? Like when you try to give him medicine? So far the Motrin has stayed down (and thank goodness too - amazing how after 30 minutes when that Motrin kicks in, it's like the kid is brand new...then 4 hours later, he's back to miserable again). And he didn't puke up the antibiotic on the first round. Keep your fingers crossed...
3. Because of Paul being irritable and sick, Andy is just now getting to bed. I got home from teaching a little while ago and he grabs onto me, in tears (because he's exhausted) wanting to stay with me and Paul all night. Because that is going to help his exhaustion. I finally calmed him down with the promise that he could stay home with me tomorrow and stay in his jammies (don't tell his teachers...although, really, sometimes you just have to let your kid have a day off, especially when they've lost 2+ hours sleep and they'd be worthless anyway - and besides, he read almost an entire little book to me last night, even sounding out words that were not his sight words).
4. I'll probably never hear the end of that from Rachel who will protest that it's her birthday and she should get to ditch. To which I will reply "hey, aren't your friends decorating your locker for your birthday and you can't miss that." To which she will reply "well, how about Thursday then?" And round and round we go.
5. I sit here with another dilemma (again, at night, and with Paul). He's crashed on the recliner in a teeshirt. Probably wouldn't hurt to put some warm pjs on him, but that would mean waking him up. But then again, he probably could use a breathing treatment too. But I would have to wake him up. And quite frankly, I'm cozy here on the couch with our dog keeping my legs warm. Sigh. I guess being a good parent means waking up your sick kid to give them medicine...
6. And finally, I must share a story. Andy's Pre-K teacher last year nearly peed her pants over the whole Jesus MIA tales from the holidays. She grabbed me in the hall today to tell me she was cleaning her daughter's room and guess what she found under the bed? Or should I say guess who she found under her daughter's bed? BABY JESUS! See, it's not just my crazy household; Jesus can appear and disappear anywhere...there's a message in that somewhere! Ha ha, Mrs. Johnson...you made the mistake of calling me your friend and look what happened. Baby Jesus is pulling a Houdini in your house too!
7. Time to sign of and do some ugly parenting involving pjs and medicine.
Hope Rachel has a wonderful birthday and Paul is feeling better soon. Pneumonia is miserable. My son had it once -- I don't know if he remembers it anymore but I was traumatized by it!
