I tend to resist new forms of technology a wee bit more than the rest of my generation does. We were the group that got computers in the classroom when we were in junior high, yet no one at the school seemed to know what to do with the 5 green-screened DOS computers. I figure someone must have told the school "ooh you should get computers" and then they had Sister Tharla pretend like she knew something about them.
It was exciting though.
I've resisted Facebook as long as I could and even though now I am on it and have befriended a whopping 11 people, and I did get hooked on ChainRxn (score of 26+ million), I can still proudly say I haven't taken one stinkin' quiz yet. I really don't care what flavor Skittle I most am like or how well I score on 80s tv commercial trivia.
I have befriended my Blackberry phone though. Oh, do I love that cute little thing. And while I resisted texting for quite some time, I will admit it's become a handy, dandy thing. You can annoy your kid with it, without even talking to them. You can tell someone some pertinent information without actually having to have an entire conversation with them. It's wonderful for the anti-social being.
You can also acquire new forms of laziness.
K: Dinner?
R: Idk (I don't know)
K: Hungry now or later?
R: Later
K: Okie dokie
And we're in the same house while this "conversation" is going on.
But last night proved the most useful when, at 12:45am I heard peals of laughter coming from her room where she and a friend were doing whatever. They opened her door, went into the garage for some beverage of choice, and back into the room. Doors opening and shutting and opening and shutting. And loud laughter and voices. Rather than get out of bed or risk waking up husband and children by screaming, I picked up my phone.
K: Shut up.
They did. How easy was that? And I didn't have to raise my head off the pillow.
