Czech Day!

In celebration of our Czech heritage, ahem, Yukon's Czech heritage, every first Saturday in October is the Czech Festival. St. John sponsors a float each year and the Kindergarten class gets to ride.

I have to share that I was supposed to attend a meeting at one of my colleges this morning. These meetings are only twice a year and I actually missed the spring meeting due to poor mail delivery (everyone in our neighborhood can vouch for this last year). So when I got the letter informing me of the date for the fall meeting, it was with a huge sigh that I emailed my division dean to beg off. "Please, Dean, can I get a substitute for the meeting? Oh please, because you see my son is on the float for the Czech parade and since it's only the Kindergarteners that get to ride, he'll never be on the float again...I can't miss it." And how could she refuse? I got my replacement, along with a "that's one of the best reasons I've heard in a while."
